Vanee Foods Reduces Customer Complaints by 36 Percent and Achieves Highest Food Safety Certification Score

Integrated Alchemy training program engages frontline workers

AUSTIN, Texas — For more than 65 years, family-owned Vanee Foods Company has helped food service companies and distributors deliver safe and quality products under a variety of brands. When Vanee Foods wanted to strengthen its food and safety program, it turned to Alchemy Systems.

“Our customers trust us to produce safe and quality products under their brand,” said Luke Vanee, vice president of marketing and communications. “So it’s important that we strive to ensure safety and quality standards that exceed expectations.”

Vanee Foods also wanted to achieve higher food safety certification scores with the British Retail Consortium (BRC). To improve its BRC ratings, the company needed to improve the way it delivered and documented training on safety, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), allergens and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Building a Comprehensive, Consistent Solution
Vanee Foods worked with Alchemy to develop an interactive food and safety-training program that provides consistent awareness of food safety issues across all frontline workers.

The program included the Alchemy Creator software that enables human resources and operations staff to create professional courses with videos, photos, audio and graphics as part of the Alchemy management platform.

“With Creator, I can make videos of our employees performing their jobs and upload them to Alchemy’s platform,” said Vanee Training Coordinator Pamela Nash. “By including employees in the videos and training program, our frontline workers feel like they’re a part of our organization; and they take pride in creating quality products in a safe environment.”

Fewer Complaints, Greater Ratings
After implementing Alchemy, Vanee Foods frontline workers are more aware of the company’s food safety and quality standards and practices, which helped reduce customer complaints by 36 percent. In addition, the company received its first “A” rating with the BRC.

“These improvements, are very important to Vanee Foods from a business perspective, because they show our customers that we’re continually working to improve,” said Luke Vanee. “As a person who interacts with customers every day, I need to believe in the service we are providing. Having Alchemy in place gives me the confidence that our frontline is putting out high-quality and safe products.”
